Introduction and Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to both our primary website, www.marylandsymphony.org, and our ticketing website, marylandsymphony.my.salesforce-sites.com/ticket (collectively, “our Websites”). The Maryland Symphony Orchestra (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is dedicated to maintaining transparency about our data practices. Although data collection may vary between sites, we apply consistent privacy standards across both. Additionally, while we do not collect personal data during the ticket-purchasing process, our advertising partners may collect certain data to improve user experiences and deliver relevant advertisements.
1. Collection of Information
Our Websites utilize third-party advertising technologies, including NextRoll, Inc. and Google Ads. These partners help us recognize your device and understand your interaction with our Websites, enabling us to serve relevant ads and enhance site performance. Specifically, our partners may collect data about your activity on our Websites in order to:
- Measure and analyze traffic and browsing activity;
- Display ads for our products and services on third-party sites;
- Measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on our site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string for spam detection. An anonymized string created from your email address (called a hash) may be shared with the Gravatar service to determine if you are using it. After your comment is approved, your profile picture will appear publicly alongside your comment. For Gravatar’s privacy policy, see here.
2. Media
If you upload images to our Website, please avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) to protect your privacy. Visitors may download and extract location data from images on our site.
3. Cookies
If you leave a comment, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies for future convenience. These cookies last for one year. Additionally, we use the following cookies:
- Login Cookies: For users who log in, cookies will be set to save login information and screen preferences. Login cookies expire after two days, screen options after one year. The “Remember Me” feature extends login cookies to two weeks.
- Temporary Cookies: For visitors to our login page, a temporary cookie is set to determine browser compatibility, which is discarded upon closing the browser.
- Editor Cookies: If you edit or publish an article, a cookie will be saved to indicate the post ID of the article, expiring after one day.
4. Embedded Content from Other Websites
Articles on our site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images). Embedded content from other websites behaves as if the visitor had directly visited the other website, potentially collecting data, using cookies, and tracking interactions if you are logged into that site.
5. Cross-Device Data Use
To provide a seamless advertising experience, we may share non-personal data, such as hashed identifiers, with our advertising partners, allowing them to serve ads across devices. Learn more about these practices from NextRoll’s Privacy Notice.
6. Data Retention and Your Rights
- Retention: Comments and metadata are retained indefinitely to enable efficient follow-up. For registered users, personal information provided in profiles is stored until deleted or updated by the user or an administrator.
- Data Rights: If you have an account or have left comments, you may request an export of your data or request its deletion, excluding data retained for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
7. Opting-Out of Interest-Based Advertising
Our partners may use non-cookie tracking methods that may not be affected by browser settings. To opt out of interest-based advertising, use these resources:
- Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) Opt-Out
- European Digital Advertising Alliance (EDAA) Opt-Out
- Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) Opt-Out
To opt out of Google Ads data collection, visit Google Ads Settings.
8. Where Your Data is Sent
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
9. Updates to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. When updates are made, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page.
