The Maryland Symphony Orchestra strives to make its performances accessible to all.
For additional information or if you have questions, need assistance, or an accommodation not mentioned, please contact the Maryland Symphony Orchestra in advance of your visit at 301-797-4000 or info@marylandsymphony.org. Should you have difficulty using standard contact methods, we encourage you to utilize Telecommunications Access of Maryland- Maryland Relay Services to contact our Box Office.
Accessible Seating
As a historic venue, the Maryland Theatre offers ADA seating on the Orchestra Level, but it is very limited. If you or someone in your party requires ADA seating (such as for wheelchairs, sight/hearing impairments, or limited mobility), please contact the Box Office directly at 301-797-4001. Wheelchair accessible seating is also available for purchase via the online ticketing system.
Please be aware that all seats in the Balcony Sections (BAL100, BAL200, BAL300) and Box Seats are only accessible by stairs. These seats are NOT recommended for patrons who have difficulty with stairs or who use mobility aids like walkers or canes.
While the Maryland Theatre has two elevators, neither provides wheelchair access to the balcony seating area due to the historic nature of the building. It is strongly recommend that anyone with mobility issues reserve seating on the Orchestra Level.
Hearing Assisted Devices
The Maryland Theatre is equipped with a state-of-the-art hearing loop system that helps patrons with hearing aids enjoy crystal-clear performances. This system connects directly to most hearing aids. To use it, patrons should switch their hearing aids to the ‘T’ or ‘MT’ program. The sound from the stage transmits directly to the T coil of the hearing aid, providing clear audio and allowing those with hearing loss to fully enjoy the theater experience.
Patrons without hearing aids or with non-compatible hearing aids can request a headset by providing their driver’s license at the technical desk located at the rear of the Theatre upon arrival for a performance.
Interpreter Services
The Maryland Symphony Orchestra offer sign language interpretation upon request. Requests for interpretive services must be received at least three weeks prior to the event by the Box Office by phone or email at info@marylandsymphony.org. These requests are subject to the availability of an interpreter and are provided at the discretion of the management.
Service, Therapy, and Emotional Support Animals
Service animals, therapy animals, and emotional support animals are permitted at The Maryland Theatre, limited to dogs or small horses; all other types of animals are prohibited. These animals are welcome on a leash or harness only. To ensure safe egress for guests and staff in the event of an emergency, the aisles must always be kept clear. Upon arrival, please notify a staff member if the seat you have reserved does not provide adequate space for your animal; the Box Office staff will attempt to find alternative seating if available. If a suitable seat is not available, a full refund will be offered. Patrons with animals that are not well-behaved, aggressive, or pose a danger to others will be asked to leave, and no refunds will be provided in such cases.
Accessible Restrooms
A single-stall-accessible unisex restroom is located behind the 300 section on the Orchestra Level in the historic auditorium. Additionally, patrons can find accessible restroom facilities on each level of the Performing Arts Center.
Visual Impairments
Orchestra Sections 100 and 300 are particularly recommended for individuals with visual impairments, as they offer optimal acoustics and proximity to the stage for a more immersive experience. To secure seating in these sections, please contact the Box Office directly. Our staff will be delighted to assist you in making your concert experience truly memorable.
