Volunteering with the MSO
MSO Volunteers are vital to the function of Maryland Symphony Orchestra in a variety of ways. People of all backgrounds and ages 14+ are welcomed to volunteer with us for our concert season, annual Symphony Ball, Salute to Independence, and more!
Duties may include:
- Scanning tickets via mobile device or paper
- Greeting patrons
- Assisting patrons to their seats
- Helping in the office
If you’d like to play an important role in the daily life of the MSO, become a volunteer! For more information contact, AJ Hines, Box Office and Accounting Manager, by email at ajhines@marylandsymphony.org.
Student volunteers are eligible to receive Student Service Learning hours when volunteering with the MSO.
Internships
The MSO provides non-paid internships to college students seeking a working knowledge of a non-profit orchestra, including Operations, Marketing, Development, Library, and General Administration.
An MSO internship greatly expands a student’s concept of the business model and applies it in a real-world setting. Interns work with individual staff members, becoming familiar with the various areas of responsibility and applying this knowledge in the daily operations of the orchestra.
Students must be currently enrolled in a recognized college with a major in Music, Marketing, Graphic Design, or Business Administration and a 3.0 GPA in their major field. Interns must have access to reliable transportation, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, be able to lift 30 lbs. and be available for occasional weekend and evening work.
Interested students should submit a resume and cover letter indicating your desired internship period (i.e. summer 2024) and available work dates to Kim Bowen, Executive Director, by email at kbowen@marylandsymphony.org.
