Ensembles in the Community
While the historic Maryland Theater is home to most of our full orchestral performances, our mission to bring music to the region goes beyond the concert hall. To connect with the local communities that we serve, we bring the music to you whenever possible by participating in festivals, fairs, and other local community events! Bringing small ensembles to perform for Hagerstown PRIDE, Community Trick or Treat, Hagersfest, Frederick “In the Streets” is always a rewarding and delightful experience for musicians and staff alike. Next time you hear violins bowing in the street or the bright tones of horns playing at a holiday festival, come listen and say hello! We always love the chance to meet our community.
Retirement Community Partnerships
Getting the opportunity to listen to live, high quality musical performances shouldn’t be limited by age. As part of our Music & Well-Being initiatives, small ensembles travel to various retirement communities in the region, bringing music to the residents throughout the year. From brass, to strings, to woodwinds, we want to make sure that those who are unable to travel to the Maryland Theatre for mainstage performances can still enjoy all aspects of classical music. In addition to visiting retirement communities ourselves, the MSO underwrites the cost of round trip transportation to Classics performances from select retirement facilities. This provides ease of access to even full orchestrated performances for those who still crave the classic concert hall experience.
MSO Around Town
While the primary focus of the Maryland Symphony Orchestra is to bring music to the region, that isn’t the only way we support our community. Music brings us all together, but it isn’t the only way that we can connect with one another. The MSO is committed to supporting a variety of local events by sponsoring and participating them. This provides our community has the chance to support other local businesses and non-profits while having a great time. Growing the local community and providing memorable experiences is everyone’s responsibility and works best with teamwork! From a night at the new Meritus Park watching our Music Director, Elizabeth Schulze, throw out the first pitch to sponsoring the Washington County Ice Cream Trail, we strive to be a good community partner while highlight the many ways to enjoy regional events.
Giving Back To The Community
The MSO is thankful for the incredible private and public funding and support that makes the music possible. We are also committed to giving back. As such, we are proud to provide ticket donations to other community organizations including churches, schools, and other civic organizations to help with their fundraising efforts. Growth cannot happen within a vacuum. When other local organizations are able to succeed, it helps everyone in the community including the MSO. We want to continue that cycle, to strengthen the local community, and ensure long lasting growth for more than just ourselves.
