Enriching Lives Through Music
At the Maryland Symphony Orchestra, we are deeply committed to using the transformative power of music to enhance the well-being of individuals and communities throughout our region. Music is more than an art form—it’s a catalyst for connection, healing, and growth. Our Music & Well-Being initiatives are designed to foster social, mental, spiritual, and physical health, ensuring that the gift of music reaches people of all ages and walks of life.
Ensembles in the Community
The MSO brings music beyond the concert hall to festivals, fairs, and community events. From Hagerstown PRIDE to Frederick’s “In the Streets,” our ensembles create vibrant and engaging experiences. Whether it’s violins bowing in the street or horns playing at a holiday festival, we bring the joy of live music directly to our neighbors.
Retirement Community Partnerships
Through our Music & Well-Being initiatives, we ensure that live, high-quality musical performances are accessible to seniors, whether through small ensemble performances at retirement communities or by underwriting transportation to MSO concerts. These efforts allow seniors to experience the joy and enrichment of classical music in a variety of settings.
Collaboration with the ARC of Washington County
The MSO is proud to partner with the ARC of Washington County to bring the transformative power of music to those who face physical and cognitive challenges, as well as to underserved members of our community. These offerings are held in welcoming, sensory-sensitive environments that foster comfort and connection, ensuring that those who may not have the means or mobility to attend traditional concerts can still experience the joy of live music.
Educational Outreach
Our educational programs inspire and educate, introducing the next generation to the wonders of music:
- Storytime at the Library: Combining captivating storytelling with live musical performances for a magical, family-friendly experience.
- Symphony Saturdays: A free, four-week program for students in grades 1-3 to explore the instrument families of an orchestra through interactive activities.
- Kinder Konzerts: Designed for pre-K through first-grade students, this program introduces fundamental musical concepts and the instruments that bring them to life.
- Adult Lecture Series: Explore the stories behind the music through engaging lectures led by expert musicians and guest speakers.
MSO Around Town
Our commitment to the community extends beyond music. By supporting local events like the Washington County Ice Cream Trail and engaging with regional partners, the MSO plays an active role in fostering connection and collaboration across our region.
Giving Back To The Community
The MSO is grateful for the generous support of our donors and is committed to paying it forward. We provide ticket donations to churches, schools, and civic organizations to aid their fundraising efforts. By strengthening the fabric of our community, we create a positive ripple effect that benefits everyone.
Our Commitment to the Community
Through these and other initiatives, the Maryland Symphony Orchestra reaffirms its dedication to enhancing the well-being of our community. Music has the power to uplift, inspire, and connect us, and we are honored to share this gift with the people we serve.
