The Maryland Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce our next community lecture, “An Introduction to Music Therapy,” co-hosted with Hagerstown Community College. The event will take place on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at the Career Programs Building, Room 213, located at 11400 Robinwood Drive, Hagerstown, MD 21742. Admission to the event is free and open to the public.
The event will feature Ms. Nicole Cuevas, a board-certified music therapist with specialized training in Neurologic Music Therapy. With her Bachelor of Music degree focused on Piano Performance from the University of the Philippines and a Master of Music degree focused on Music Therapy from Illinois State University, Nicole has extensive experience working with various client populations. She has worked with children with multiple disabilities, adults diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disabilities, people with mental health needs, elderly with dementia, and adults in palliative care.
During the event, Nicole will describe the variety of methods and techniques Board Certified Music Therapists use in various populations to help improve people’s lives. Music therapy is a proven way to harness the power of music in various forms to improve quality of life, from prenatal life through palliative care.
The event is co-hosted with Hagerstown Community College and is open to anyone interested in learning about the benefits of music therapy. Nicole will provide valuable insights into the field of music therapy and its ability to positively impact individuals in different settings. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in a discussion about music therapy and its effectiveness.
